Last night J and I went to buy his backpack downtown on Stephen Avenue Walk and on the way back we stopped in at the McNally Robinson book store. Fantastic place, 3 floors of books and stuff and there was a live duet happening. Couple of girls about our age, one playing accordion and the other singing. So amazing, we ended up staying for dinner at the restaurant upstairs just to hear them more.
Tamara Beatty & Penny Sanborn. Check them out.
Oh ya. And only 4 more sleeps!

My Co-workers Love Me!

Today they surprised me with a giant gift basket full of happiness for our trip to Mexico! As they are permanent employees, today they got their bonuses and felt that I too should get something. It's full of all sorts of wonderfulness like spray on sunscreen, a book, Sudoku, chapstick, Q-tips, bronzer, sunglasses, aloe gel, a lavender soap and bath salt set, a pen that lights up when you write, a deck of cards and tons more.

We Booked! We Booked!

And the winner is: The Grand Palladium Kantenah Resort.

So, in 13 more sleeps I get to be on a beach in Mexico! For 2 whole weeks! Can't wait!

Also, I found out today that they are going ahead with the proposal to hire another permanent person (me hopefully) so that's a little stress off.

Here's a couple of pics from the wedding where for some strange reason my dress looks florescent orange when in reality it was a very nice red colour. Hopefully these aren't the professional ones.

Updates n stuff

Well, the latest breaking news is that we have decided to wait until the last possible minute to book a vacation. We've gotten our passports (wow, I really should have asked for black and white, soooo bad!) so we're good to go. We're going to pick whatever's a good price be it Mexico, Dominican, Cuba, Costa Rica, whatever, the week or week and a half before we go. Unless I find something in the meantime, and I do check neurotically every day (hour). One option is the Gran Sirenis, a 5 star all inclusive on the Mayan Riviera I found for $5400 for 2weeks. That's doable, but it would be nice to find a better deal. If I could find a cheap flight we would be able to take advantage of my friend's parent's offer of the price they pay at the Aventura Spa Palace. Amazingly beautiful, comes with 5 star VIP treatment, airport transfers, couples mani/pedi/massage and 3 free tours along with all the normal included stuff.

Went to that same friend's wedding shower in Lumsden SK this weekend. Met her family, had a great time, squished 16 hours of driving into 3 short days, but it was good. Her wedding is this weekend and I finally (today) dropped off my dress to be hemmed. Bad girl. Thank goodness for 30hr turnarounds.

Mostly I'm waiting to see if I have a job to come home to. It's a little hard to be super extra excited without that info.

Bedouin Soundclash

I have heard this song on the radio a bunch, and I have no idea what it means, but the harmony is fantastic

Lyrics:
I'm on the rocky road,
Heading down off the mountain slope,
And as my steps echo (echo) louder than before
Another day is done,
Say good-bye to the setting sun,
See what I found, turn back to the ground just like before

And hey hey hey, hey hey hey (hey!)
Hey Beautiful day (hey! hey!)
Hey Beautiful day
Hey, hey hey hey
Hey Beautiful day (hey! hey!)
Hey Beautiful day

When the night feels my song,
I'll be home, I'll be home

Into the undergrowth,
Twist and turn on a lonely road
In the twilight the day turns to night and I'm alone

And when the light has left,
I'm not sure of my every step
I'll Follow the wind that pushes me west back to my bed

And hey hey hey, hey hey hey (hey!)
Hey Beautiful day (hey! hey!)
Hey Beautiful day.
Hey, hey hey hey (hey!)
Hey Beautiful day (hey! hey!)
Hey Beautiful day.

When the night feels my song,
I'll be home, I'll be home

Best Little Cartoon Ever

While it's still January

I thought I'd finally post quickly about Christmas and our visit to Dawson. Had a great time with J's family, his mom and bro came down for the Christmas week. The boys played squash, the girls played at Ikea, we all decorated our tree which ended up looking like Christmas threw up on it. But hey, that's the beauty, or so I'm told. We went to the Airdre Festival of Lights and took the obligatory photos:
Jeremiah and Carmen

Carmen and Jeremiah

Jesse and Carol

Me and my niece who is looking very "special" in this photo and while she is undoubtedly special to me, she may hate us later in life...
We had tons of fun dancing, jumping on beds, making a gingerbread house, tormenting the cat, playing the new Barbie phone's ring over and over and over.

And of course the whole reason for the trip: my precious new nephew who I miss holding and snuggling. Great job P & T.

Traveling, traveling

So, my lovely husband has changed his mind again and decided that Bali is too far away and costs twice as much to get there so we should go to South America and spend the same amount but do more things. So, the decision process starts again. Guatemala, Venezuela, Brazil, Belize? Probably Belize, but really, all I care about is having a beach to hang out on and not being kidnapped or scared. I did purchase my backpack today, from MEC:
Isn't it pretty?

I took it home to play with and see how much stuff (shoes, books) I can fit in it comfortably.

We had a great weekend in Dawson visiting the chillens. Got to meet my new nephew, and I have to say, pretty darn cute. Besides he like never cries and snuggles really well; what more can you ask for?
